
Trip to Žabljak
By plane: Podgorica airport (170 km) is the closest one. From there, you can take a bus. However, we recommend that you rent a car and drive to Žabljak in order to be able to stop by and enjoy in the beautiful countryside on the way.
By road: from Podgorica (which is 170 km a way from Žabljak) you should drive along the highway that passes by Kolašin and Mojkovac and goes on along the Tara River Canyon.
When you are near Mojkovac, you should turn to the road on the left side before the entrance the town. In the Tara River Canyon, there is Đurđevića Tara bridge.
When you arrive this bridge you should pay attention, because the road on the left will take you to Žabljak, while the road on the right will take you across the bridge and to Pljevlja. The road to Žabljak passes through Crna poda forest and goes up the hill all the way to a plateau at 1,500 m altitude. From Nikšić (which is 139 km away) you should take the road that goes across Šavnik and Bukovica.
Tourists from Bosnia and Croatia should drive through Trebinje and Vilusi in order to arrive to Nikšić and then continue on the road for Žabljak. The road from Podgorica is particularly attractive, because it goes through the wild Morača River Canyon - Platije, and the Tara River Canyon (from Kolašin to Đurđevića Tara bridge). You can stop by and enjoy in stunning panoramic views of the captivating and cruel countryside. Đurđevića Tara bridge is on of the most remarkable Montenegrin bridges.
The roads for Žabljak are passable all year round, except in few days when there is a lot of snow. If you are traveling in snowy days you should check the road conditions at Automobile Association of Montenegro. Also, you can phone to the Tourist Association of Montenegro at 9797 to obtain these information. There are several bus lines from the surrounding towns ond bigger centers to Žabljak.
